Bastimentos Hikes

Description

The tour begins in the town of Bastimentos and thus offers an insight into the predominant Afro-Antillean culture right from the start, which is nowhere more pronounced in the Bocas del Toro archipelago than in Bastimentos Town. After leaving the small town, you will quickly gain your first jungle experience and at the same time have the comfort of a well-developed hiking trail, which makes the tour a year-round hiking option, even on rainy days.

The hike takes about 2 hours in total (round trip) and is suitable for all fitness levels. As the path has recently been widened and gravelled, hiking boots are not necessary, even in the rainy season. The turning point of this hike is a beach that is particularly popular with surfers, who you can watch surfing during a well-earned break. Swim when the waves are small or simply linger for a while and enjoy this picturesque and secluded beach on the northwest coast of Bastimentos before your guide takes you back to Bastimentos town.

In our opinion, this hike along the northwest coast of Bastimentos is best combined with a visit to a chocolate farm and a snorkeling stop at the northwestern tip of Solarte Island, making it an approximately 8-hour tour (the hike length then reaches 6,5 km as the chocolate farm needs to be walked, too) . Your guide will be with you the whole time to ensure your safety in and out of the water and to show you the beauty of the islands of Bastimentos and Solarte.

We can offer you this combined tour for $230/240 (2-3 people) or $250/$260 (4-5 people), including boat ride, guide, cooler and a lunch package. There is an additional charge of $30 per person to visit the chocolate farm and enjoy natural products from the permaculture farm.
